Frequently asked questions
Where are you located?
We are located on Oxford Street in Coquitlam, B.C.
Are your services safe for sensitive skin?
Your rn esthetic skin care specialist will assess and discuss your individual skin care needs and your desired outcomes and determine the most effective and safe skin treatment with you in the consultation portion of your appointment.
What skin issues do your skin services help treat?
Skin types and concerns that can be helped are dry skin, oily skin, normal skin and skin that has scarring, acne-prone, stretch marks, rough texture, large pores, sun damaged, fine lines, wrinkling, peach fuzz. Body skin can also be treated for these same issues and tightening problems as well. (Genital areas are currently not available for treatment at this time.)
What is Microneedling?
Performed by a skincare professional, microneedling is a minimally-invasive procedure that uses a handheld device containing very fine cone-shaped needles that inflict micro-punctures to the epidermal layer of the skin. With almost no downtime or discomfort these controlled injuries trigger the skin’s natural repair processes, stimulating collagen and elastin production. This procedure is most commonly used to help tighten the skin and improve the appearance of fine lines, scars, stretch marks, wrinkles and skin texture.
What is Microchanneling?
Microchanneling is a popular treatment for acne scars, surgery scars and stretch marks. Scars improvement occurs by breaking down the old tissue and fostering the development of healthier skin. When combined with cutting-edge growth factor serums, healing is improved and future signs of aging is diminished.
Microchanneling involves a 3-stage process:
- Micro-needles create micro-channels – Precision micro-needles are tapped into the skin creating uniform micro-channels. A single pass over the face will create hundreds of thousands of micro-channels.
- Stimulation of a healing response – Each micro-channel is surrounded by healthy tissue, which enhances the healing process. In response to each micro-injury, an inflammatory healing process begins which initiates the formation of new collagen.
- Smoothing of Skin – Over time, the repeated healing process will build new collagen, creating healthier skin, improving the surface texture and the overall appearance of the skin.
Who is a Hydrofacial recommended for?
The Dermasound TM device is excellent for most people, however is not recommended for persons with infections, rashes, pacemakers, epilepsy, pregnant and nursing mothers and women trying to become pregnant.
What are the benefits of a Hydrofacial?
The Hydrofacial helps improve overall skin texture, tone, and appearance. This is due to the deep exfoliation that cleans your pores, removing debris and allowing for superior penetration of face serums tailored to your skin type. At rn esthetic we use the DermaSound™ gentle and painless ultrasonic device which does not injure the skin and does not use harsh chemicals or particles to exfoliate dying or dead skin cells. It works via a gentle frequency that “spins” water molecules across the skin in vibrations of approximately 28,000 times per second producing a reaction called cavitation. There is no pain, inflammation or irritation involved. All skin types and colors benefit greatly with DermaSound™ treatments.
How long does it take to see results after a Hydrofacial?
Results are immediate- the skin will be extremely clean and hydrated and smooth.
What is Rezenerate?
Rezenerate is an award-winning device that utilizes nanotechnology and works as an infusion catalyst to enhance product absorption by up to 40-50% within the skin. Rezenerate works only within the stratum corneum to ‘condition’ the skin and creates thousands of microchannels, increasing product absorption. Rezenerate is a great alternative to microneedling with no pain, no downtime and no blood and is safe to use on all skin conditions. While influencing the entire epidermis, Rezenerate provides the skin with incredible hydration and nourishment, improves the skin texture and tone and leaves the skin healthy and glowing. Don’t like needles and downtime? Try a Rezenerate nanofacial- Instant and noticible results. No pain, no downtime and no needles!
Who is a Chemical Peel recommended for?
Skin types: Normal, Oily, and Combination skin.
Chemical peels are good for treating skin that would benefit from deep exfoliation. It may not be used for persons with rashes or infections or those who are sensitive to any of the ingredients- see ingredients in the Glymed PlusTM chemical peel website.
Does a Chemical Peel Hurt?
No, we use mild and medium grade Glymed PlusTM chemical peels which may tingle on the skin but do not hurt. There is no down-time except for the skin will naturally flake for a day or two. Skin must not be exposed to the sun for 5 days and the skin must be covered in sun screen for any exposure to the sun.
What are the risks of a Chemical Peel?
A chemical peel can cause various side effects, including:
· Redness, scabbing and swelling. Normal healing from a chemical peel involves redness of the treated skin.
· A chemical peel isn’t for everyone. Your esthetician might caution against a chemical peel or certain types of chemical peels if you:
· Have taken the oral acne medication isotretinoin (Myorisan, Claravis, others) in the past six months
· Have a personal or family history of ridged areas caused by an overgrowth of scar tissue (keloids)
· Are pregnant
· Have frequent or severe outbreaks of cold sores
· Before you have a chemical peel, discuss your expectations with your esthetician
· Make sure you understand how many treatments you might need, how long it’ll take to heal and what your results might be.
How can you prepare for a Chemical Peel?
Avoid unprotected sun exposure. Too much sun exposure before the procedure can cause permanent irregular pigmentation in treated areas. Chemical peels are not done on sunburned skin.
Avoid certain cosmetic treatments and certain types of hair removal. About a week before the peel, stop using hair removal techniques such as electrolysis or depilatories. Also, avoid hair dying treatments, permanent-wave or hair-straightening treatments, facial masks, or facial scrubs in the week before your peel. Don’t shave the areas that will be treated beginning 24 hours before your peel.
What happens during a Chemical Peel?
Before the procedure, your esthetician will clean your face and cover your eyes with gauze.
Pain relief isn’t needed for a light or medium chemical peel. During a light or medium chemical peel:
· Your esthetician will use a brush, cotton ball, gauze or sponge to apply a chemical solution typically containing glycolic acid or salicylic acid.
· You might feel mild tingling while the chemical solution is on your skin.
· The solution is left on the skin for a prescribed time and a timer is used. The solution is washed off and the skin is moisturized following. Sun screen is applied.
What are the results of a Chemical Peel?
A light chemical peel improves skin texture and tone and may improve the appearance of fine wrinkles. The results are subtle but increase with repeated treatments. If you have a medium chemical peel, treated skin will be noticeably smoother. With all peels, the new skin is temporarily more sensitive to the sun. rn esthetic uses Glymed PlusTM the gold standard of chemical peels. These solutions are renowned for its results in treating, correcting, and controlling pigmentation, wrinkles, and acne. The potent antioxidants vitamin E and retinyl palmitate, in combination with TCA, provide unparalleled results in safe and controlled skin Peeling. Peels are safe for all skin tones. Talk to your esthetician to see when you can have further chemical peels.
What is the best aftercare for a Chemical Peel?
After a chemical peel of any depth, your skin may be reddened. Follow your esthetician’s directions for sun protection, cleansing, moisturizing and applying moisturizers to your skin. Avoid picking, rubbing or scratching your skin. Full results of the peel are seen in as little as a week. You can usually wear makeup the next day if you wish.
Use sunscreen every day.
Does Dermaplanning hurt?
No, it is a painless procedure.
Will the hair grow back thicker and darker after Dermaplaning?
No, it will not. Don’t worry, Dermaplaning does not alter the type of facial hair that grows back after the procedure- if peach fuzz is dermaplaned off the face and/or neck it is just peach fuzz that grows back. When you feel it growing back, it is shorter than the original length soft peach fuzz, but that is to be expected as it grows- most people dermaplane monthly and it is a lovely way to exfoliate and smooth the skin- it is our most popular procedure.
Dermaplaning is more than shaving. The blade used for dermaplaning is able to reach curved and awkward areas of the face and neck when done by a professional.
